Fabrication & qualification

Fuel Fabrication & Qualification

TRISO commercialization depends on manufacturing discipline: FCVD coating controls, rigorous QA/QC, evidence packaging, and certification-aligned documentation suitable for regulator and stakeholder scrutiny.

Core steps (high level)

Fabrication is typically organised into three principal production stages, with vigorous QC at each step and recycling of rejects where appropriate. We structure readiness around controls, traceability and documented evidence.

1
Kernel manufacturing
Kernel formation to specification (program-defined kernel material).
2
Coated particle manufacturing
FCVD deposition of buffer, IPyC, SiC and OPyC layers; in-process controls and sampling.
3
Fuel-form manufacturing
Integration into compacts or graphite pebbles; dimensional and integrity checks.
4
Quality management
Traceability, inspection records, controlled nonconformance handling.
Qualification evidence package (illustrative)

We support partners in structuring evidence packages that align to qualification expectations: specifications, process readiness, testing programs, and documentation.

Program definition

Specifications, acceptance criteria, and use case definition.

Process readiness

Controls, QA/QC checkpoints, traceability validation.

Testing & review

Irradiation/testing plans; post-test analysis; independent scrutiny.

Release governance

Batch release, change control, audit-ready documentation.

Detailed milestones are shared via controlled disclosures.
